thank goodness

A rumor is now reality. For months now I have been hearing all sorts of rumors that Matthew Mead and Ki Nassauer were teaming up to produce a new magazine. In the editorial world we have seen a lot of magazines disappear so the news that this duo were merging their creative minds made me giddy. Not to mention I would love to contribute in any way possible (portfolio on its way soon Ki & Matthew). Flea Market Style will be a newsstand magazine and hopefully if it is successful it will turn into a subscription based publication. The blog should be up by the end of August and the magazine will be released early spring of 2010. YEAH!

confessions of a shopaholic

I have for years talked myself into purchases (projects) thinking I would have time to get to them or I could make something with them. My sewing days seem to be behind me, and forget reupholstering things myself. Did you say that would look good painted or turned into a mirror.... Can you see where I am going with this post? I love to shop. I find some really cool treasures and yes I am attracted to the "potential" in many objects. For that reason the basement (2,000 sq. ft.) in the store is full of the aforementioned objects. Oh, and I can't forget my obsession with props either (many of which will be available for the first time). And there is the random orphan from the sales floor too. So it is with great pleasure that I invite each and every one of you to attend my first BASEMENT SALE in the hopes that you will relieve me of some of these treasures. * I hope the thought of it conjures up a Filene's Basement sale-like frenzy. our story

In the spring of 2000, a life long dream came true when I opened my first shop in a tiny storefront in downtown Savannah. Within three years we had outgrown that little store and the search for a larger location began. I settled on a centrally located space with more visibility and foot traffic. After spending three years in the second location, we found ourselves once again craving more space. As luck would have it we found an enormous turn of the century storefront on Savannah's premier shopping street. We remained there until the winter of 2010 when we closed our doors due to the lagging economy. @home was recognized as one of the most inspiring, stylish and original stores in the area.

the people behind the magic...

I couldn't have done this without the support of my husband. He is the motivating force behind the visionary. He helps me do everything from building projects to rearranging to hunting for antiques all while running his own successful custom furniture business and helping raise our beautiful son.

I also had the distinct pleasure of sharing my shop with a talented and inspiring group of girls (past & present) that contribute to the creative environment on a daily basis.

then there is me...

I was a bit bohemian growing up with a love for old things so I savored the opportunity to work in an antique shop in my early twenties. I quickly realized that this was my calling. In 1995 I moved to Savannah, GA to obtain a BFA at the Savannah College of Art & Design. Shortly after graduation I opened the shop and the rest is history.

my other job...

In 2003, an editor from a national magazine took me under his wing and introduced me to the editorial process. As a freelance producer and photo stylist I have worked with incredibly gifted people that continue to inspire and challenge me. My work is reflective of the environment and aesthetic of my former shop. @home served as a creative laboratory filled with elements that I pullred into my features. I have produced and styled magazine features, purchased and supplied props for video, television, film and print media.

my most recent endeavor...

In the spring of 2009 I launched Elizabeth Demos Event Design & Styling (www.elizabethdemos.com). I'm available for full event design and coordination both near and far. It has been a natural transition from shop owner to event designer. I have the opportunity to incorporate all the things I love the most; being creative, working with people, exploring my imagination and inventive design.
